Sly Cooper 4: Background Design
Below are a random smattering of backgrounds I personally designed and colored for the Sly Cooper 4 game. (Spoiler Alert for those not wanting to see some of the areas of the game. Don't look!) It was a fun project with a wide range of looks and palettes. Many of these designs took their cues from artwork designed by Sanzaru Games, while others were invented from whole cloth since they were not playable locations in the actual game.
I got a chance to design these versions of the characters for a short flash-back sequence. It was a nice change of pace from all the BG concepting.
Thanks for taking a look!

Sly Cooper
This week Sony released Sly Cooper 4 for PS3, which I was lucky enough to be a part of. Ghostbot produced all the 2D animated cut-scenes for the game. I did color-styling, background design and composite for the majority of the animation. Early on I got a chance to design my take on the character. At the time he was looking a little different in the game and my design sorta reflects that -- a little old looking -- but it was fun to get a chance to do some character design.
For the promotion of the game Ghostbot made an animated short to lead into the game. You can see it here:
My color script for the short ( Panel drawings by director Alan Lau):
The short gave me a chance to use CG to assist on designing the Bgs since we spent a lot of time in many of the locations. I was happy with how the hallway turned out:
I'll post more stuff in the coming weeks from the actual game. I want to give players the time to discover the animation for themselves.
